I am NazoTheDark, a former member of the Frontier's Core Team. Ask Me Anything!
As the title says, I was until about a week ago part of the Frontier's "Core Team" (basically leads devs). I was a lead writer and quest designers. I wrote and implemented the Legion Questline (and Scrapz), Wrench, The Hanged Man, Skitters, half of Salt Town, Irvington, the Portland Royal Casino, Sanctuary, Arlington Heights, Bright Town, The Netwrk, half of the Church of Eternal Life, and a lot of miscellaneous characters, notes and quests strewn throughout the mod. I also wrote and implemented the Trochili, Mae Caufield and Tricky Dick, so yeah. Some ground rules: I will do my best to answer all questions (even the meme ones) but there are two types of questions I will not answer: 1). Troll questions 2). Trouble shooting questions or questions about bugs (that's for the Frontier server, this is mostly for trivia and behind the scenes stuff). Otherwise just don't be jerks to me, the mods or to each other and you should be fine :). Also, just a forewarning, I'm going to be typing fast, so please forgive a few spelling and grammatical errors here and there. The AMA starts at 11AM EST and ends at 7PM EST, though it may end early if interest dries up.
Alex had long been established as the avuncular sage of game show hosts, the wise authority figure you never wanted to disappoint should you have the honor to appear before him on the beloved cultural institution that is Jeopardy! But I grew up with a different Alex, one who was fun and freewheeling rather than the icon of trivia experts. So let's take a look at his U.S. game show career, during which Trebek demonstrated the versatility that made him the greatest game show host of all time.
The Wizard of Odds (NBC, 1973-74) - Can you imagine Alex Trebek as host of The Price Is Right? Alex's first game in the States was clearly inspired by TPIR, as contestants were brought up from the audience for guessing games that revolved around probabilities rather than prices. This was Trebek's only true audience participation show, and while at this point he was no Bob Barker or Monty Hall, this was mildly successful and set him on his way here.
High Rollers (NBC/Syndicated, 1974-76, 1978-80) - Alex was never looser than with this casino-themed dice show, which did have a quiz component but was mainly about Trebek having fun with the contestants as they tried to hit their numbers. This would have been very bland with a different host (see the late 80s version with Wink Martindale), and Alex's terrific performance established him as a true game show star.
Double Dare (CBS, 1976-77) - This was Alex's first U.S. show that featured true trivia experts, and he was easily able to shift into a more serious mode and allow his intelligence to shine through.
The $128,000 Question (Syndicated, 1977-78) - Alex hosted the second season of the revival of the smash hit quiz of the 1950s. Time had passed this format by, and there was little Trebek or any other host could have done to salvage it.
Pitfall (Syndicated, 1981-82) - Probably the worst game show Alex ever hosted, in which contestants were called upon to guess audience survey results, memorize light patterns and answer trivia questions. This is the show for which Alex famously never got paid, as the production company went under. Clearly the low-point of his career.
Battlestars (NBC, 1981-82, 1983) - Easily the fluffiest game show Alex ever hosted, essentially a remake of "Hollywood Squares", except the stars sat in triangles instead. Alex was completely at ease cutting it up with celebrities and helped make this trifle very enjoyable.
Jeopardy! (Syndicated, 1984-2020) - Need I say more?
Classic Concentration (NBC, 1987-91) - This is "fun" Alex at the very peak of his mastery of the form. He made the contestants relaxed and interesting, treated the game with just the right level of seriousness and engaged in hilarious interplay with wacky model Marjorie Goodson. The greatest version of a game show classic.
To Tell the Truth - (NBC, 1991) - Alex took over for the final few months of this version of the venerable panel show. Cited by Trebek as one of his favorite hosting jobs because it was the only one in which he was sitting down.
When we look at this overview, we can see that Alex was always respected, but his career had stalled out a bit in the early 80s with several flops on his resume. Had Art Fleming not turned down the chance to return to the Jeopardy! revival, Alex might be better known today for his TV commercials than anything else. Thankfully for him, and for us, Merv Griffin knew who was the right person for the Jeopardy! job. I will always be grateful to Alex for the education, entertainment and providing America with an oasis where we can be a little more civilized.
Discovered after Butte AWE in 1992, The Motel is a Place of Power in several ways similar to the Oldest House, used as a gateway across space and dimensions. It doesn't create seamlessly connected thresholds, but rather transports a person across dimensions. Connections to various dimensions seem to be fixed, though the exact place can change. And we have learned in AWE DLC that new connections can be added, as the spiral door appeared in 2019, likely as a part of Alan Wake's failed attempts to contact the FBC and warn them about the Dark Presence. The only known method of getting into the Motel is using the Light Switch Cord. FBC agents also use it to get out of the Motel. Attempts to exit or enter any other way were unsuccessful. From the current lore, we know that the Motel has fixed connections to the Dark Place (spiral), the Oldest House (black pyramid) and the Quarry/Foundation dimension (Janitor). It connects to other places as well, but we do not have much lore on those. The white pyramid is seen in the Foundation symbol), The Doors symbol is most likely seen in the director's office, the Vanguard symbol is already referenced within collectibles in AWE DLC and is tied to an experimental multiplayer title Remedy is working on. And the final symbol is supposed to be significant for Control 2. By the way if you're not sure where I'm getting this, here are the names of the symbols as described within the files of the game. As for the unopened numbered rooms, you have someone being tortured and murdered in room 223 and in another instances someone is laughing in that same room. This suggests that the Motel does indeed connect to other motels, just as Emily Pope speculates, even if perhaps through this one room. Emily also tells us about a person who was found dead inside the Motel, trying to get food from the vending machine. You can actually die in the Motel, it's not just a place inside your mind. As I've mentioned in other posts, we have absolutely nothing on the Casino door. Emily suggested that people could be hiding in the Motel during the Hiss crisis, even though you've obviously been there and haven't met anyone. This suggests that the Motel has multiple channels and you could end up travelling into any one of them. This is further supported by the version of the Motel where it's night outside. We also have collectibles in AWE DLC, suggesting that the FBC isn't the only one using the Motel, as their surveillance has observed unknown people in the motel. Where exactly is it? The FBC is still looking for a physical location of the Motel. It's almost certain that the Motel is a real place that's in (or connected to) our world, and it's almost certain that you can actually get to it. The fuel for this speculation is the fact that we've heard people outside the motel. Based on their conversation there's another motel not very far from it. My theory, in-line with current lore, is that somewhere in USA, there is a pocket dimension which can only be accessed under specific circumstances (like in a car of specific colour with specific contents in the trunk, during a specific time of the day while it's sunny). Due to how it's threshold works, people could travel in and out of the dimension without even being aware of it. It could also be that the Motel is always there, but only appears to people under specific circumstances, just like the Oldest House or Cauldron Lake Cabin. However, that would make the unchanging lighting conditions outside difficult to explain, which is why I like the pocket dimension theory better, as it takes care of that detail. How does it do what it does and what does it actually do? I always advocated a theory that the Motel was created using the powers of the Dark Place. After AWE DLC, and my speculation about the method of entry which I'm going touch later, I'm almost sure this is supposed to be the case. First big clue is the sound cue when you complete a ritual. Not only is it awfully similar to the sound cue you get in Alan Wake when you complete a ritual to alter reality, what the narrator says in Alan Wake could easily be the narration for what Jesse does in the motel. And of course, we can't omit that these noises, although a lot more intense, are similar to the the noises made by control points in the Oldest House, which suggests that whatever is happening, it's related to the resonance of the reality. It's right there on the sign. \"Agent must orient and anchor motel to their personal frequencies\" You have three rooms for rituals to create one passage. When you compare it to Alan Wake's manuscripts, you'll notice that most of the time, there are three things that must happen before an outcome is created and reality is altered. Through the rituals and pulls of the light switch, you are altering the reality of the Motel and sometimes even our own. The way to look at it is that there are two realities - our own, and the one in the work of art. The three rituals align the resonance of our reality to the fictional one and they become one and the same. And the work of art containing the new reality in this case is the painting in the room. It's important to note that the motel doesn't just transport you around. In fact, on some occasions it returns you to the same spot, but something about the reality has changed - for example a bridge in the firebreak was added. Debate in the comments also reminded me about the topic of how exactly the mechanism of the motel works, that is, why are the light switch cords placed where they are, and how does the motel know where to transport you. As interesting as this topic is, these are questions that are probably impossible to answer. All we know is that after FBC discovered the first light switch cord and the Motel itself, more cords started appearing across the Oldest House. In one instance Ahti makes a light switch cord appear for Jesse, which gives a lot of credibility to the assumption that he positioned the cords across the Oldest House, which would further support my theory that he serves as a doorman/gatekeeper in the Oldest House and using new theories to support my old ones is always nice :P At the same time, we can't rule out that Trench could have known how to work with them and use them as a security measure. The Board could also be involved, but they never even mention the Motel or the cord, so there isn't much to go on. It would also be interesting to know whether the motel somehow knows where you want/need to go, or whether it has to be set up in advance somehow. But this topic is never even touched. The first agents who entered the motel didn't enter with the intention to get to the Oldest House, but they managed find their way there, so there's good enough reason to think the Motel can adjust automatically on the fly based on the desires of those inside. Purely subjectively, I like this narrative better. And finally, let's talk about the light switch. Whoever created the motel used a light switch as a mode of entry. This switch changes the light and has the power to alter reality on it's own to some extent. This isn't a new concept. Alan Wake has a light switch called The Clicker which is an altered item created via the Dark Place. Aside from being able to destroy the possessed body of Barbara Jagger, it was able to instantly switch between night and day. Thomas Zane has a light switch of his own, which he possibly used to save Samantha Wells from Taken who were attacking her house. The exact function of this switch is not known. So... we have THREE light switches in total. If they all were the result someone's story, it would make for a rather neat consistency. All in all, it's possible to speculate that the Motel is the work of another artist like Wake or Zane. At the end of the game, when Jesse is transported from her dream, I'm not sure whether that's supposed to be Jesse's own channel of the Motel, just like Alan has the version where it's night, or whether it's a representation of it in her own mind. It's easy to miss but this version of the motel has different posters on the walls and all of them revolve around one constant Jesse and her life. As a bit of a trivia, an inspiration for the Motel seems to be the TV series Lost Room. It's dated but a really good mystery that could easily be made related to Control, revolving around a place of power and altered items.
I have been doing SwagBucks for about two years now, and I have become a bit of an expert. As a 15-Year-Old, I can utilise my lockdown time effectively, and make some money in the process. Being 15, I don't have a job or any other form of income, so it's cool that I can make some money that I can use on what I want. I use SwagBucks for 1-2 hours a day, and my outcome can vary, with it being 100SB on days I get disqualified often, and 400SB on an effective day. In this post I will share my tips and tricks on how to maximise your earnings.
Make yourself a planner. It can get confusing to manage your earnings and you can find it difficult to track recent activity. It doesn't have to be anything particularly fancy, just a memo that shows you what you have done, and which activities reward most often.
Don't be picky with activities. If you can learn to bite your tongue and complete more tedious tasks, you'll find that you'll be rewarded much more frequently. Be sure to also visit SwagBucks' many partners, including AdGem, OfferToro, Peanut Labs, and RevU. Obviously if you see a survey that offers 5SB for an hour of your time, don't do it. It's always about picking your battles, and seeing them through.
Participate in SB Live. It's essentially a Trivia Show that pays out fairly often. Each show takes about 15-20 Minutes, and if win, you can earn anywhere between 25-200SB. If you are worried about getting a question wrong, there are a number of communities that team up to share answers and help each other win.
Use SB on multiple devices. Different activities specialise being on a specific device, such as shopping and the SwagButton being available on a computer, whereas Surveys are (in my opinion) easier to do on a mobile. If you can find the right balance of devices, you can earn much more frequently.
Adhere to the Surveys. I'm not saying lie necessarily, but try to answer in a way that the Survey wants you to answer. The most annoying thing is getting disqualified from a Survey because, and I quote, "You did not meet the desired demographic for this survey." This trick has to have saved me at least 3000SB over my SwagBucks career.
Doing your shopping through SwagBucks. Not to mention that downloading the SwagButton alone grants you 50SB, but it can also give some pretty neat deals at top retailers. Just consider next time when you go to buy new shoes or some groceries, "Does the SwagButton cover this website?" Your average fortnightly shop can give you somewhere between 50-250SB!
Invite and Refer friends. SwagBucks gives you 10 Referral codes that you can use to invite your friends. Not only do you earn both 300SB if your invite downloads the SwagButton and 300SB alongside your friend, but you also earn 10% bonus of anything they earn forever. This is a brilliant bonus, especially if your invite is an active SwagBucks participant.
Attempt some of the "Discover" offers. Many of these offers are mobile games that offer massive payouts for completing an objective in a mobile game. these offers vary, anywhere between 500-5000SB. I personally try to stay away from these offers as I never see them through, although some of these games are really enjoyable and are definitely worth your time. One tip for these offers is to make sure you finish them. To my knowledge, if you begin an offer and don't finish it, you cannot reinstall it and the offer is null and void, so always make sure you are definitely prepared to complete these offers. I have found a good offer to begin with is "POP! Slots Casino", as their Facebook page offers free chips very often, and this can speed up the process considerably. It's a good 1500SB for about 2 Hours worth of playing a genuinely enjoyable game.
I hope that these tips and tricks help you as much as they have helped me, and that you can maximise your SwagBucks profits effectively. As I said, this is a good way to make some surefire money on the side, regardless if you have a job or not. It can help you make ends meet, or if you just want to feel accomplished that you made a few pounds for some of your time. Try using some of the time we have in lockdown to give SwagBucks a go, because I know I have. Good Hunting!

The police car’s siren was the first thing that woke me up. Living in a small town, I was not used to hearing it in the dead of the night. I grumbled something not very pleasant towards our peacekeeping force, then tried to put myself back to sleep. I was having a very vivid nightmare, so in a way it was a good thing that this patrol car took me out of it. Now I could try to dream about something pleasant. That’s when I heard the siren a second time. This was unusual, something was definitely happening in town. I thought I’d just hear about it in high school in the morning. A third car came down my street, but this time, someone was talking in a large speaker. Hearing the tone of the man made me realize it was for sure not an advertising for an upcoming circus performance. I forced myself to wake up, took my head out of the pillow and instinctively looked at my phone to check the time. It was 2:30AM, but that is not what caught my attention. I received a text from a two-digit number -98-, probably something official: FOLLOW MILITARY INSTRUCTIONS // THIS IS NOT AN EXERCISE // IF YOU HAVE FIREARMS TAKE THEM // TAKE ONE FLASHLIGHT PER PERSON MINIMUM // LEAVE YOUR HOUSE NOW // STAY CLOSE TO LIGHT SOURCES What the hell did that mean? Was that some kind of joke? I’ve heard about some official alert message-guy making a mistake in Hawaii, maybe that was it. Some prank. I heard helicopters flying above our town. Now that woke me up. This never happens. Our little valley town of about 23 000 inhabitants was not a place of trouble. We gave all the attention and problems to the city of Missoula, way south, beyond the Indian reserve of Flatheads. I opened the window of my bedroom and saw that there was about a dozen helicopters in the air, some pointing flashlights around the city as if looking for something, some landing in the parking around the town’s casino. There was some noise outside my room. My parents were awake, and I saw the light of the corridor flowing under my door. They were a little bit on the paranoid side, wanting nothing else than a quiet life, and so were already packing. I let go of a long yawn, watched a large military transport plane land in the small airport south of our house, and started to get dressed. Twenty minutes later we were in the streets. The night was still very dark, despite all those helicopters in the air. All the neighborhood was up and walking, following the police officers that were directing us to the mall. My dad tried to ask a couple of questions to the officer, but he was as confused as us. Apparently, the police station got a call not long before us, and had to hurry to get in gear and to take the people to a staging area from which we would be brought to the southern mall. There, we would be “safe”. Safe from what? “Jonathan!” I turned around, looking for the person calling my name. It was Sophie, a classmate that was also a neighbor. Apparently waking up was much harder for her than it had been for me, looking at her face. I made a joke about it that did not get the result I expected. She just yawned to my face, threw a casual insult, and went on with the conversation. “Do you know what is happening?” I shrugged and shook my head. “Nothing more than that weird text saying to stay in the light,” I admitted, “maybe something happened at the Canadian border? Maybe a terrorist attack? Maybe ther-“ I was interrupted when four military jets flew in low altitude right above us, going north at full speed. The sound was deafening, and I saw my mom along with many others protecting their ears with their hands. I tried to follow the lights of the planes with my eyes, but they disappeared not long later. Our city is in a valley going North/South, so if they were following it, it was easy to guess where they were going. Few smaller towns, then the Canadian border. I felt my heart stop for a second when I heard detonations, way up north. This was not an exercise, just as they said. These planes just bombed something. I looked at my parents with shocked, open eyes. “Are the Canadians invading?” I asked, not believing what was happening. Nobody could tell us anything. We just kept following the police officers. Military trucks were going north up our suburban streets, and every time they came, we stepped on the side of the road to let them go. It was weird enough, but when combat transport vehicles started to go alongside regular tracks, people started to whisper. “Are we at war?” whispered a mid-aged lady, visibly frightened. My eyes caught Sophie, who was distraught. She was stepping away from her parents and seemed very nervous, with tears forming in her eyes. “What’s up?” I asked her, trying to sound as casual and reassuring as possible in this crazy situation. “It’s Margaret. She was spending the night at the casino with some friends.” Margaret was Sophie’s older sister. I did not really like her, she was too much of a wild party girl. Not that I want to sound like a boring suburban high schooler. “So? She can join us directly at the mall, right?” Sophie tried to make something with her mouth than sort of looked like a smile. A tear went down her cheek. “I don’t know. We tried to call her, it goes directly to voicemail. I heard someone saying the military were using the casino as headquarters. Maybe she didn’t go out in time. Maybe… I don’t know. Oh my god…” She started to cry, and I hugged her. I tried to say a few good things to make her feel better, but I’ve never been good for this kind of thing. Even my hug was not that great, since we needed to keep walking while hugging. “Listen, let’s go there real quick, pick her up, and direct her to the mall. Deal?” She looked up at me with teary eyes. I could see the judgement in her eye. “Are you stupid? There are so many soldiers there.” “So what?” I gave her a real smile just as a couple of Apache attack helicopters broke formation west from us and went north at great speed. “They are on our side. Plus, if there are so many soldiers, we’ll be safe there, too.” It was not a great plan, but I really thought it would be fine. In the worst case they would catch us and send us on the way to the mall. We were kids, right? It would not take a lot of time. I asked a neighbor friend to tell my parents that I’d go with Sophie quickly pick up her sister, and that we’d all meet at the mall. If I told them directly my dad would just catch me and carry me on his back to make sure I’d stay with them. The large group of neighbors arrived at a military checkpoint. Soldiers were there, taking command from the police officers. Everyone was given a distress flare and military-grade flashlights by soldiers, and then got inside a truck. Headed directly to the southern mall, I guessed. One thing caught my attention: One of the soldiers at the checkpoint was not in regular army camouflage. He had a black-and-red uniform that seemed more high-tech to my unexperienced eye. I mean, I kinda like to know the name of military hardwares, but I don’t know much about uniforms. The man was there, standing on an Humvee, giving orders around, making sure that everyone got a flare and embarked in the trucks. The crowd started to mass in front of the checkpoint. That was our chance. “Let’s cut through the Robinson’s garden to get around the army.” Sophie looked at me as I was saying my stupid plan. “From there we can go straight for the casino.” And that’s exactly what we did. Away from the group, we plunged into the dark of the suburban gardens. To the distant north more explosions came. I looked into the skies and saw nothing except the very pale moon and some black clouds. The skies were pitch-black. Some funky lights were coming from the valley up north. Was that the result of the bombing? Or some weird thunder? “Don’t you feel it is cold?” asked Sophie. I did not pay attention until now because of the adrenaline but yes, it was freezing. Much more than what was usual for such a summer night. “Yeah I feel it, plus that damn wind won’t start blowing. It’s not even going in th-“ I stopped instantly. I realized something that froze the blood in my veins. In our town the airport was a big source of jobs, and I wanted to be an air controller. Lots of useless trivia I knew about our airport. One of them: It was built to follow the wind, in order to help pilots to take off with the wind on their back. And that wind was always coming from the north, going south. Not tonight. “The wind is blowing north…It just won’t stop blowing…” Sophie stared a me with round eyes. I could read the incomprehension on her face. “It never happened.” I whispered while shrugging. “If you try to scare me, Jonathan… Let’s just turn on the lights.” Sophie was taking her flashlight out of her pocket put I quickly pushed it away. “No! The soldiers will see us. We need to not make any noise.” A huge rumble came up from our left, on Main Street. We both crouched and tried to see from behind the fence we were hiding behind. A column of Abrams battle tanks were going North at great speed, towards the casino. The whole goddamn Army was deploying in our town. I was about to offer to, maybe, go to the mall, when Sophie started moving again. “Okay, let’s hurry. I don’t want to stay here a minute more than what is necessary” We walked ten more minutes. Fighter jets kept going north to bomb god-knows-what. More and more troops arrived, be it by helicopters, transport planes, or coming up from Route 93. I was acting tough in front of Sophie but in truth, it was terrifying. I swear I saw the shadows of a couple kids while we were crossing the gardens. They were going straight to the east, probably also looking for a way inside the casino. Maybe Margaret’s friends? They did not see us, moving fast away from us. I would have called them out if I were not so frightened to be heard by the patrolling soldiers around us. Our terror switched to stupefaction once we arrived at the casino. The entire casino area had been turned into a fortress. Defensive positions had been erected, snipers were on the roofs, tanks were on the parking lot. Everyone was looking north. On the roof of the casinos huge light projectors were being installed. I don’t know the exact name of these things, but you know the thing that is used for the Bat Signal? That sort of thing. Hiding in a backyard, we tried to look for a way in. We failed. Soldiers were patrolling everywhere. With the helicopters not high above, it was difficult to hear what any of them were saying. Most of them seemed confused, scared even. I guessed that they did not know either what to expect, or at least not completely. Most of them looked very nervous, and I did not want to risk them reflex-shooting us because we were trying to sneak in their backs. A squad of four black-and-red soldiers came not far from us. Same advanced uniform as the one coordinating the evacuation effort. They also seemed stressed but were staying away from the bulk of the troops. I made a sign to Sophie to stay silent, and then tried to focus to hear what they were saying. “Any refugees coming from the north?” asked a first soldiers to their squad leader. To my surprise, he had a strong foreign accent that I sort of recognized as East-European. “None. They couldn’t run away in time.” Said the man leading the unit in a cold, harsh tone, before pointing to the roof of the house to our right. “Put Karl, Mikhail and Frédéric up there. If HQ falls they’ll cover the retreat. Any news from Tomohiro’s unit?” The whole group stopped, not five feet from our position. We were standing in a bush, behind a fence, still as a shadow, holding our breaths. “Defenses at the Wallmart are up,” said a man carrying a large computer-looking device on his back, connected to his helmet through wires. “He will try to delay them, but that won’t make us gain much time.” Silence fell for a few seconds before the fourth soldier, a woman with a Texas accent, asked: “Why are we setting up here? It’s not a great defensive position.” “First, we don’t question orders, you know this,” answered immediately the squad leader, “and second, this is the last town before the valley opens up. The last bottleneck before these things can get out of the valley and spread to the flatlands. We have to hold the line until the other Households have regrouped and counter-attacked.” More seconds of heavy silence. I couldn’t hold my breath anymore and started breathing as discreetly as I could. The squad of black-and-red soldiers started to move away. “We just have to hold the night? They’ll be weaker in the daylight, right?” asked the man that was previously worried about refugees. “If they can close the Rift. Otherwise dawn will never rise again on this region.” They kept talking while walking the outskirts of the casino-fortress. Series of powerful explosions rang from the north, this time much closer to our city. It jump-scared me like thunder. Gunfight erupted in what I knew was the direction of the Walmart, north of the city. It sounded like a huge firefight… or it was just a lot of soldiers were shooting at something. The helicopters above us broke formation, taking altitude while launching volleys of rocket towards an unknown enemy. The fighter jets were now dropping bombs not twenty kilometers away from us. Even though we were not that close, we felt the aftershock and the heat waves, something unlike anything I felt before. “Let’s go through the sewers,” I offered, “we’ll be safe there, and we can reach the casino that way.” “I’m NOT going in the sewers,” shouted back Sophie, “No way. Absolutely no way.” A rain of huge rockets flew above our heads from way south, headed straight to the valley in the north. Way on my left I saw the shape of a huge twin-rotored helicopter getting away from the combat zone. He was spiraling out of control. I did not see what was causing that but after ten seconds of spiraling fast he just plummeted to the ground. Screams started to rise from beyond the casino, as firefights erupted everywhere. “This whole place is turning into a warzone,” I said to Sophie, “I’m all up for not going into this fortress, but at least let’s take the sewers to get away. It’ll be way faster. I’ve seen it in movies.” Sophie was utterly terrified. She did know what to do. I could guess she still wanted to save her sister, or join her parents, or mine, or anything. I just wanted to get the hell away from whatever was coming. Out of town. “Let’s wait a few minutes, she offered, maybe it’ll calm down. Maybe they’ll win.” We waited for about ten minutes. The battle was now in full swing. I did not know what was going on. We went a few streets south from the casino, hidden in another backyard, not far from where we could access the sewer. It was like being in the middle of a huge firework show, except the fireworks where a thousand times louder. However, it was not bright at all, and if not for the sound and shockwaves, we could have thought the town was peaceful. I took the opportunity of having a bit of time to write everything on my social media. More helicopters crashed all over town as more convoys of troops and vehicles arrived, deploying their infantry in the streets around us before heading to the fighting in combat formation. We were staying hidden as all of this happened. The winds started to grow ever stronger, and the light of the moon was getting paler and paler, until we could barely see anything apart from the explosions. The light was going away, somehow. Even the screen from my phone seemed dimmed, as if critically out of battery. “Incoming! Take positions!” I heard one of the soldiers not far from us shout to his men. Then it hit us. Cold grasped my body as all the lights of the streets went out. In an instant I could not see anything more than ten meters away, except the dimmed flashes of the soldiers weapons firing. Sophie looked at me, utter terror in her eyes. I took out the flashlight from my pocket and turned it on. It barely helped, but it was something. I saw something moving not far to my right, and pointed the lights towards it. It was nothing, just shadows dancing with shadows. Far to my left the soldiers were screaming, screams of horror and pain. Whatever was happening, they were losing. I kept praying that somehow our army would turn this battle around. That this, whatever it was, was not the end of the world. That we would survive this. What I did not know at this moment was that the mission to stop this nightmare had already happened. That is was led by an elite force beyond my imagination. And that they had already failed. “Okay,” said Sophie, crying, “let’s try the sewers”. We waited two additional minutes that the firefight around us got less intense before going for it. Then we heard an inhuman howl, something almost insectoid and rocky. It sounded as if it came from the other side of an auditorium, echoing beyond us and then back. “Let’s go,” I shouted to Sophie, taking her hands as we were running towards the sewer entrance, ready to enter the darkness below.

Hello :) I'm Sam, I'm 32 and I live in upstate New York. I'm a sports reporter at a local newspaper, although this week one of my assignments is about how local dairy farms are reducing their nitrogen output, so you can see how we're handling the lack of sports around here 😜 I'm also going to be a greyhound dad soon! And in my spare time I enjoy watching sports, video and card games, trivia nights, mini golf, bowling, Dave & Buster's, casinos, conventions, tournaments and cooking - basically a whole bunch of activities shut down by COVID. Lately I've had issues where I eventually discover something about the women I encounter on dating sites that would have saved me a lot of time if they were up front about them before we started getting vulnerable with each other. For example:
One woman revealed after we started getting intimate that she is polyamorous and in a dom/sub relationship and had no intentions of not seeing him if we were to start dating.
Another turned out to be a Trump supporter and couldn't answer my question about why him mocking a disabled reporter wasn't a dealbreaker for her, especially considering I am also a reporter with a disability (autism spectrum disorder, more on that later).
I got super vulnerable and super close with a third woman and even twice delivered her Taco Bell and flowers while she was sick (thankfully not with COVID), only for her to become completely unresponsive afterward.
And a few other generic ghostings in between.
These are just more additions to the War and Peace-length list of woeful dating experiences I've had, and yet I continue to put myself out there because, well, let's face it, I'm not getting any younger, and I'd like to think that, if I wasn't married by now, I'd at least be living with a long term S.O. At least I'm no longer living with two roommates whom I constantly cleaned up after and bailed out financially. And, to be honest, I'm tired of feeling heartbroken when I realize I'm the only unattached adult at weddings. I realize I can't blame others for all my struggles though. As I said earlier, I'm on the autism spectrum, plus I have anxiety and depression. They don't cripple me in any way, but I'm stubborn, I'm unfiltered, I'm brutally honest and blunt, I fall fast and hard, and anything I feel, I feel at its most extreme. It's a blessing and a curse, because it shows how much I care about the people and things that matter to me, but sometimes my personality can be a bit boisterous and overbearing. But I would never mean to hurt, annoy, upset or offend anyone. So the three things I need out of any kind of relationship are patience, empathy and clear, concise, direct communication. Having said all that, here's what I'm looking for:
A new group of friends, preferably a mix of genders, who are into any of the same things I am and want to plan outings and activities together.
A serious, long-lasting romantic relationship with a woman who can be my romantic partner, activity partner, best friend and roommate.
Here are some do's and don'ts for messaging me: Do's Do send a picture with your first message. You can send me a regular DM or use Reddit Chat, either works for me. Do be willing to take our conversation outside of Reddit, although I really only use texting and Snapchat for that. Do be willing to meet up within a reasonable amount of time, taking quarantine into consideration, of course. Do have time to meet regularly. Do have some similar interests. Do message me if you are a plus size woman with glasses named Sarah. You don't have to be plus size, wear glasses or be named Sarah to message me, but I seem to be most frequently attracted to women who fit at least part of that description. Don'ts Do not be a Trump supporter, or even one of those "not into politics" types. I have no time for apathy under this administration. Do not be polyamorous or in an open relationship or anything like that. I have nothing against it, but it's not for me. Do not waste my time under any circumstances. Don't ghost me, don't take forever to message me back, etc. I want to know that my level of interest is being reciprocated and that you're taking this seriously. Do not be just one guy looking to grab a drink at a bar. When I say a new group of friends, I really do mean a group. ABSO-GODDAMN-LUTELY DO NOT ask me to suck your dick or smoke weed and jerk off with you. I wish I didn't have to say this, but ladies, even us guys aren't immune to super creepy DMs on this here corner of the internet. exhale As your reward for getting through all that, here's what I look like. So that's me. Now let me hear about you!

There was a Roll20 Community Roundtable on Aug 30, 2019. My (very) rough notes below, and a link to the Twitch VOD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/474609461
People presenting: Soraya (Director of Communications), Trivia (Director of Licensing), Eric (Business Analyst), Stephanie (Scrum Master)
Advanced Fog of War - Major things not working as expected since the previous update. They are working on a broad revision to the system to bring it more in line with dynamic lighting - back to the drawing board. This will take a little while because it is a major overhaul. They want to keep us updated, but it is in prototype stage right now so not much to show at the moment. Big focus, but will take a while. They have hired a new graphics programmer to help with that effort.
Next marketplace feature is Wishlist. Ability for more than 1 wishlist. Ability to see other people’s wishlist, such as your GM.
Orr Group Industry Report: Significant Changes, old version based on what users were saying was happening (basically a user survey). New report from scratch, includes original data but also Character Sheet usage. Captures about 85-86% of all games. Still need to find ways to capture custom sheets, and they are also looking at additional features for the report, such as HOW people are playing (what features they use from the Roll20 site like music, dynamic lighting, etc.). Also trying to solve chicken/egg question (what games do people play, and how much is it impacted by official Roll20 support and products such as 5e DND and Pathfinder) of support of games, so they can track usage based on release of new product, official licenses, etc.
New Help Desk - roll20.net/help - All policies in one place, feature info from Wiki moving over (not complete), easily searched, support tickets.
Roll20 Con Oct 5-6 - more info in September.
Chat question: Pathfinder 2e questions: Discussion about how much fun the devs are having in their 2e games. Matchmaking low, not a lot of games searching. Filter between 1e and 2e is available since last tuesday for matchmaking.
Chat question: 3D Dice miss-match to displayed roll - they don’t have the correct developer on to answer this, Trivia says the system has to roll all the dice even when the roll template presents different info. Math and presentation are tied together, not seperate like in a casino game.
Layer Up update? They are working to improve the architecture underneath this process, so they do not have a release date for this update (also effects Fog of War and other graphic components). This is a major architecture update instead of a patch.
Legality of using marketplace content to run paid games on Roll20? Paid GM on Roll20, it works the same as if you paid someone in real life. If you paid someone in real life and went to their house to play the game, it isn’t distribution to use their minis and maps and so forth - that is not distribution. And Roll20 doesn’t consider that distribution on their platform.
Blades in the Dark Character Sheet - maintained by creator of game, and it was re-classified because it was under community created instead of By Publisher (publisher supported sheet). If you are playing it, you just need to re-add the sheet to your game. This is technically an upgrade for the sheet.
Pathfinder 2e upcoming release support? Can’t guarantee every release because there are a LOT that are fast and regular, every month multiple releases. They will do their best to keep up with the releases that will help the most people.
Chat question: Search function of marketplace doesn’t use assets name? It does, it just uses pack names more highly weighted. This is new functionality and they will keep tweaking it in. First three tags on an individual item are the only tags used in the search, so if you are a creator with lots of tags contact Roll20. Seemed like there was more info being discussed in the chat with Drespar, and that devs will take a look at this more.
Chat question: User ratings in marketplace for verified purchasers? Internal discussion, worried about abuse, but they do understand people would like reviews of packs and products.
StarfindePathfinder 2e Charactermancer When? Starfinder delayed due to personnel issues, Cassie is hiring for developers to add more resources to the sheet team. Should come out this year. PF2 should be early 2020. Charactermancer are intense builds with lots of code, so take a lot of time/effort to create. Drag & Drop coming before charactermancer.
Why is development so slow? How do you plan to keep up with competing software at this rate? They push updates at least once a week, new product releases are very regular, it has been 8 months in 2019. In that time they have released: animations, AFoW revision (granted it had issues, but was a major update), Jukebox functionality, Marketplace Update (and behind the scenes infrastructure upgrades to support it), Token Bars, Player Avatars, Revised Chat Archive, sendping API update, Paizo Account Sync. Also behind the scenes updates: payment system updates, Marketplace Creator submission process, Marketplace Redemption Codes. We stay competitive by listening to our users, we are agile (always becoming more so), many things start as bug fix and then grow into bigger concerns due to user feedback, and are constantly developing to respond to both user needs and market needs. QA is now in place, not always the case, and they are hiring a second QA engineer. They are a platform, so can’t keep up with all character sheets. Development may take longer to implement a feature, but that isn’t because they aren’t aware, but more about technical challenges with the platform. The question should really be how do competing software intend to keep up with Roll20? There is a lot behind the scenes of rehashing behind the scenes that is foundational. It may not seem like much to users, but it is huge for the developers.Mobile App is being rewritten, lots of work, but it is still in the rebuilding foundational stages so nothing interesting to see. Reworking the foundation is important to growth in the future.
How many employees does Roll20 have? 30-31 and growing. Actively hiring and recruiting for several positions, and will keep growing into the future.
Timeline/ETA to fix animation tokens to freeze when imgsrc set by api? In backlog of bug reports to fix. They are also looking to understand better ways for bugs to be reported.
API suggestions. Frustration about threshold - API discussion now has a much lower threshold on the forum. Special tag for Character Sheet and API suggestions so they don’t auto close.
Return of the Runelords adventure path 2nd part (1e)? They doubled the production team, 4 new people. Return 2 and 3 will be out this year, 4-6 in 2020.
One Grung Above and Tortle Package - no because they are DMs Guild, and those relationships are complicated. Wayfinder Guide to Eberron (older book) is also DMs Guild, and has no plans to release.
SCAG and Eberron? Eberron: Rising from the Last War (new book) is day 1. SCAG, OotA, DMs Guide, they want to get out as soon as possible, but no specific date.
AoE systems and spell templates built in? API and marketplace templates cover this need. Drawing tool improvements are on road map, but down the road.
Any new RPG compendiums coming soon? Some cool stuff to be announced before end of the year, no official timelines or specific info.
Music - old jukebox? Fanburst is gone, we put in search filters and upload capability for your own audio files, and we’ve done what we can for now. If you have specific ideas post to suggestion to forums.
LFG tool has updates on road map, but not in next quarter.
Age of Ashes PF 2e - first part released before end of year.
What is the toughest part of maintaining the site and why? Keeping up with changing demands of users, shear amount of users ratio to amount of employees, scaling to please 4 million+ users, lots of legacy systems that have to be updated to scale, we don’t have enough time to play games with our co-workers. Keeping communities and users up to date has also been a challenge. Licensing has limited resources and would love to work with all publishers, but have to prioritize.
Chat Question: Custom compendium? Still internal discussions due to copyright and content. They want to do it for homebrew, but have to solve the bigger issues.
Chat Question: Dragon of Icespire Peak after Target exclusivity - September 3
Chat Question: Jukebox - any copyright issues thus far? None so far with music companies. They built it out in collaboration with their lawyers, and they have not had complaints - they feel confident in their solution.
Chat Question: Prices different on Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds - every platform sets its own prices, Roll20 feels their prices reflect the value of time and value put in to creating the products
Chat Question: General and Game specific forums - Roll20 forums are focused on the platform, organize the Roll20 game on the forum, but if you want to talk about a specific game system use the publisher forum or other online place.
Pets - Eric has a dog, has to wake it up.
User question: Questions from devs for users? what do you want, and put it in the suggestions forum!
Eric brings his adorable dog (timecode 1 hr 05 min)
Plan to do roundtables every other month or so. Might shift format in future roundtables.
Trivia Tuesday is a weekly feature run by bakonydraco, DampFrijoles, GiovannidelMonaco, and Davidellias. Each week there will be 5 questions ranging from questions most everyone can get to questions that might stump just about everyone. Your goal is to quickly answer them to the best of your ability. You get a 1 point speed bonus for finishing in under 2:30. There are definitely still ways you could cheat the system, but please do not. This is meant to be a fun weekly feature, and we encourage you to take it at face value and answer the questions without assistance.
Kyler Murray may have shocked the world by changing course and declaring for the NFL Draft, but there is nothing shocking here: Trivia Tuesday continues straight ahead into Week 7. There were four perfect scores this past week, which is a relatively low number. This week's aces belonged to ventolin_3, BobSakimano, DampSnickerdoodles (I wonder if they're related to DampFrijoles) and TMP3407. The top users right now - all with 31/36 points - are pm_me_your_miletime, TDenverFan, MetropolitanVanuatu, and Qurtys_Lyn. The Premier Tier's top six is like a deck of cards at a casino: always shuffling. Florida reclaims the top spot after a week in second, LSU climbs from fourth to second, Georgia stays put in third, Clemson drops from first to fourth, Northwestern holds steady in fifth, and Ohio State rounds out the top six by dethroning (who else?) Michigan. The only new face to the Premier Tier this week is Virginia. Unlike the past few weeks, there were some changes to the Griffin Balls Championship Tier leaderboard. Stanford remains in first, but Temple rises to second from third (unseating Utah), and Fresno State steps into third to fill the vacancy. Joining them this week in the Championship tier are Grand Valley State and Appalachian State. Best of luck to all!
Lots of new MyCareer/Neighborhood info from Brian Mazique and Game Informer
These are the two source articles: Brian Mazique/Forbes, Game Informer. Note - Ben Bishop is a Senior Producer, Jeff Thomas is the VP of Sports Development
Player Creation
Bishop: "The goal is to make it so whatever style of play you prefer, you're not going to be at a disadvantage. We want them all to be relatively equal so we spent a lot of time evening those out."
In the full game you'll be able to see how attributes max out instead of just a color meter. Bishop: "You won't see it in The Prelude version, but once the main game hits, as you are changing your archetypes there's a button you can hit to bring up a list of what your max will be for each attribute. You can see how the different combinations affect it. Then when you move over to height, weight, and wingspan, it's the same thing. You can see if you go up two inches, this is what attributes are going to change."
Progression/VC
You start as a 60 OVR
Difficulty modifier returns
There have been "changes to VC distribution", no specifics
"If you go to practice after every game that gives you the opportunity to move up much more quickly," Bishop says. "One of the things we did in practice, for example, last year you had a set amount of drills and they were tied sometimes to multiple badges. You could do a drill and maybe not get any extra points toward that badge. This year, we have a drill that's one-to-one to every single badge, so if you want to go and target Ankle Breaker or some specific badge, you can be sure that you're going to get points toward that."
To combat the complaints and to make the game more consumer friendly, 2K has cut back on the VC demands and made it easier to acquire the in-game currency.
A new Progression Bar "will show you how much more your MyPlayer has to accomplish to get to the next level for every badge and every in-story promotion, such as attaining 6th-man status, becoming a starter, etc. Even endorsement deals are included in the progression bar."
"Players will receive daily bonuses and even an opportunity to spin a prize wheel at the in-game casino once for the chance to win prizes such as shoes, clothing, equipment or VC for their MyPlayer. Once a player reaches a Level 92, they spin on the elite wheel where you can win large amounts of VC. These players also get 24 hours advanced access to sales and in-game deals on Neighborhood items."
MyCareer
"But at least B-Fresh isn't hanging around eating all your food and inviting strangers over. We got the message with her," Bishop says. "It really didn't work last year."
New All-Star Game Format has been added and your MyPLAYER can even be the captain who chooses teams.
Team Chemistry is managed through your quotes, your dialog with fans as well as with teammates, coaches, and the media. Remember, it was revealed yesterday that if your team chemistry is above 50% you can initiate Team Takeover rather than just an individual boost.
Not sure what has changed but there should be some new aspects and details to endorsement negotiation
You can add banners in your MyCOURT representing your accomplishments in the Neighborhood
New ranking system that separates MyCAREER from Park, Pro-Am, etc.
Customizing Your Player
Haircuts are free this year and you can preview before telling the barber to cut your hair. Thomas: "if there was one thing I was I could change from last year's release, it would be those damn haircuts. That shouldn't have been that way."
There will be regular clothes drops similar to MyTEAM pack drops
Wheels is a new store to buy skateboards, scooters, bikes, etc. All are faster than walking
There will be new NBA 2K League clothing in store
It's been confirmed multiple times but I know a lot of you love them...so I'll put it here again - mascots are returning.
Neighborhood Design
Neighborhood day/night cycles through every 6 hours. To put it simply, 6 hours means you would see one day/night cycle complete.
You can change clothes from the menu instead of your MyCourt
You can go to practice straight from post-game locker rooms without ever having to step foot in the Neighborhood.
Confirmed before, but yes, JRC is a replacement to Pro-Am Walk-On
Players are not visible in The Neighborhood if they have been idle for a while (ex. all the people just standing around)
There is more variety for where you spawn this year
A MyTEAM store has been added where you can create a MyTEAM card for your MyPLAYER to use in the Unlimited mode.
Unlimited mode is the only part of MyTEAM you can access directly from The Neighborhood.
There could be collective challenges for everyone in the Park. For example, if everyone online gets 10,000 blocked shots in total, everyone might get a VC reward.
There is a new daily trivia contest with a one million VC pot, split evenly between any players who answer all 10 questions. "There are six rounds and as they progress the pool dwindles but the VC reward is rising. By the time the pot goes up to its max (1,000,000), the last players remaining, and who gives the right final answers will receive a share of the VC prize."
In the new UA Cages trampoline ball, you can jump off trampolines to block, dunk, get rebounds and also bounce the ball off the walls or check your opponent into the walls
The Crew returns this year... sort of. It's 3v3 only and you can play against others or CPUs. Your team can customize your uniforms.
Neighborhood Themes/Events
There are 25-30 themes/events. There will be 1 or 2 a day.
Court Conqueror turns half of the Park into a medieval castle in which you team up with other people to play against A.I. players from NBA teams. Beat all 6 times and you get prizes like VC and exclusive clothing.
